Recognition
In the heart of Volunteer Action Week, the CHUS Foundation held its Recognition Gala on Wednesday evening, to thank and highlight the involvement of a few hundred people who allowed it to fulfill its mission over the past year, which is to provide ever better care in the two hospitals in Sherbrooke.
“This evening, we are gathered to highlight all the people who give us time, who raise their hands to support us, who help promote the Foundation and its mission. Without you it would be impossible to achieve so much! You are always there to support us and you are unparalleled ambassadors.”
said the Director General of the Foundation, Mr. Martin Clermont, at the opening of this unique evening of celebration, brilliantly animated by Ms. Priscillia Quirion.
The Foundation took the opportunity to honor those who had a particularly significant impact or whose involvement was exceptional during the past year. Eleven prizes were awarded during the evening.
The price Always ready was awarded to Ms. Maryse Lapointe, who is regularly involved and who distinguishes herself by completing multiple tasks in various activities of the CHUS Foundation.
For her two decades of involvement, Ms. Denise Bergeron received the award Loyalty, awarded to a person or a group of people, whose involvement is rooted in sustainability and who has supported the Fondation du CHUS for many years.
Mr. Marc-André Coallier, for his dynamism, his enthusiasm and his generosity, in particular during the organization of Foundation events, was awarded the prize Ambassador — public figure.
The price Ambassador — business community Is awarded to a person, or group of people, influential in the Estrie business community who, thanks to their vast network of contacts, promotes the Fondation du CHUS. Messrs. Éric and Michel Laroche, who care about men's health and who knew how to mobilize their network around this cause, deserved this honor.
The price Precious partner was given to Mr. Michel Mayrand, because this businessman always responds positively and even does more than what was asked of him to serve the Foundation!
The price Patient was awarded to a persevering woman, Ms. Sara Villemure. The mother of the family mobilized her entire community, in St-Amable, to raise money to donate to the Heart and Soul Fund for research into the brain cancer she suffers from.
Because he braved all the odds to travel 87,237 km on board a sailboat and because he also drew media attention to brain cancers and the Heart and Soul Fund, the award Community initiative was awarded to Mr. Bertrand Hould.
The price Rookie of the Year was awarded to a man who, in his first year of involvement, was present at ALL Foundation events: Mr. Simon Boissé.
Mr. Jean-Guy Roy won the award Relève, awarded to a person, or a group of people, who has been involved for a short time, but in an exceptional way and who aims to do so in the long term. We highlight his presence on the board of directors of the CHUS Foundation as well as on the organizing committee of the Golf Tournament and SKI TA VIE.
A close-knit family was able to create, around a cancer patient, an entire community that goes beyond the borders of Quebec and thus raised an impressive sum of $40,000. Ms. Geneviève Monty as well as Laurie and Félix Murray received the award. Philanthropic feat for their collection in honor of their loved one, Grégory Lapointe.
Finally, the prestigious award Jean-Besré, was awarded, for their exceptional involvement, to Ms. Martine Côté and Mr. Charles Custeau, who both served on the board of directors for over ten years.
