The particularity of the Tirage-voyage, and its popularity certainly stems from it, is that in addition to having the chance to win one of the 100 prizes, ticket holders contribute directly to the improvement of health care offered on the territory of the CIUSSS de l'Estrie - CHUS. In fact, the profits raised are shared between the ten foundations that partner in the activity and are used to finance the acquisition of equipment worth less than $5,000 per unit that was offered directly by the staff.
“We really like the Tirage-voyage concept because it's concrete and it makes people happy on both sides. On the one hand, there are the lucky 100 who deserve an award; on the other hand, there are the people in the multiple departments and departments in our hospitals who see their acquisition request come true. And purchases are made quickly, often in a few weeks,” notes the director general of the CHUS Foundation, Martin Clermont.
The selected projects aim at one or other of these two axes: improving the quality of life of patients, families or staff, and medical equipment. It is therefore as much a new positioning bench for women undergoing a mammogram, as it is a television for a room in which oncology patients are waiting, leaded protective equipment or small devices that increase the mobility of a treatment team. This goes according to the needs raised by the teams in the field since they are the ones who make the requests.
In 2022, the CHUS Foundation's share amounts to $151,886, funds that will be invested in projects proposed by and for the Fleurimont Hospital and the Hôtel-Dieu de Sherbrooke.
As for the prizes, we are talking about 100 prizes, for a total of $80,000. Of these 37 are instant prizes, the winners discover amounts ranging from $50 to $1,000 by scratching a box on their ticket. 63 are in the drawing, with a draw taking place every month from January to June and these prizes include 12 travel credits of $2,000 (or $1,500 in cash) and amounts of $250 to $10,000.
To have a chance of winning, people obviously need to get a ticket. These are on sale every year, from October to mid-January, at a cost of $104. It is possible to buy them online, via the CHUS Foundation website, or through sellers who work in the various hospitals. CIUSSSE-CHUS employees can opt for full payment or spread into 26 equal payments of $4 taken directly from their payroll.
