An important contribution has just been granted to the CHUS Foundation in order to finance an outdoor therapeutic courtyard for the clientele of the child psychiatry unit of the future Mother Child and Emergency Center (CMEU) of the CIUSSS de l'Estrie - CHUS. The Daniel Beaucage family, owners of the Beaucage Group, confirms to the CHUS Foundation a donation of $1,000,000 for the establishment of this extraordinary space.

This multi-functional courtyard will provide direct access to an outdoor environment that is stimulating, soothing and promotes healing. From the hopscotch game to the vegetable areas, including the playground and the yoga corner, young and old alike will benefit from a beautiful, lively and colorful place. The benefits of access to an outdoor environment are undeniable and contribute in particular to reducing the rate of stress and anxiety.
“My wife, my daughters and I were inspired by this great project, which we immediately liked,” says the CEO of the Beaucage Group, Mr. Daniel Beaucage. This outdoor courtyard is more than a playground. It is an environment specifically designed so that hospitalized children can experience pleasant and beneficial moments for their recovery. They have important challenges to overcome despite their young age, and it is essential to contribute to their well-being. Moreover, this project goes hand in hand with our family beliefs.”
The site will be accessible day and evening, 7 days a week, and attendance will be established by age groups.
“Currently, it is difficult for young people in child psychiatry to have access to the outside world, even if they are hospitalized sometimes for many days or even weeks. This therapeutic outdoor courtyard is part of a new approach that fully corresponds to the desire of the CHUS Foundation to participate in the continuous improvement of the quality of care and its humanization”,
believes the director general of the CHUS Foundation, Mr. Martin Clermont.
Children treated in child psychiatry suffer from severe anxiety disorders such as eating disorders, psychotics, depressive disorders or severe coping with suicidal ideation. The opening of the CMEU is scheduled for 2024.
